Joe Cincotta: Thoughts and such…

Nerdism for the masses.

What the hell? Windows Media Player 11…

Wondering why my damned workstation is running slow… is it three dev environments open at once? could it be a memory leak in the new app I built and am watching? Is it MSDE again? Maybe outlook? C’mon it must be a big app… maybe source control went crazy. Oh, but of course… Windows Media Player decided it OWNS my PC. What should be a background process of playing an MP3 becomes the sole purpose of my reason for computer ownership. Nice one boys. Between the IE7 behemoth and this crap I’m losing some faith.

…in case you can’t see it in the picture, thats 67% CPU usage by media player…

hey man, i just found this blog googling, and i have the same problem. Last time i had to reinstall windows to stop the memory leak and CPU usage, i was at 50% constant after having it open like for 5 minutes. Im guessing it wont go abover 50% because im on a dual core or something, but the longer i leave it open the more memory it consumes, and the music or video starts to jerk. Im desperate to find a solution that dosent involve reinstalling windows, as ive just done a reinstall yesterday after my hard drive crashed/ how did you stop youre problem?? drop us an email liamgaughan AT gmail . com if you got any tips
    thanks :)

I stopped using Media Player and went for XMPlay which is much much better, more stable, smaller footprint, has better skins, integrates better with windows and plays every exotic music format known to man. It also has DSP plugins and a host of other great features.

I now only use Media player for watching the odd silly video clip and thats about it. Otherwise it is truely a waste of space.

Do I need something ELSE to sync my music with portable device? NO. Do I need something ELSE to organise my music folders? NO. There are much better apps out there for doing that too. Damn, just get iTunes if you need all those crazy shinannigans!

If you want to listen to music and want it as accurate and clear as possible – go with XMPlay.
