Ducati 1098 Sydney Launch

15 02 2007

A late summer evening sees Seastian, Aurora and myself at Fraser’s Motorcycles in Homebush. I was invited to the Sydney launch of the Ducati 1098 and brought along the older two of my beautiful little people. There was a little in trepidation on my behalf – I thought they may well be bored at an event like this.

We started looking around and enjoying the bikes and absorbing the Ducati vibe. Oh yes, it was thick in the air – a rich aroma of what the Italians call ‘figura’. It was all on show and quite rightly so, that is what Ducati is all about. I am new to this; it seems like the Triumph marque I have grown used to – and most other manufacturers in the industry – don’t do glamour, they don’t have that flair that goes with this Italian marque. So we strolled around and checked out the other bikes in the 2007 stable; all quite nice – but the 1098 stole the show from the outset.

The kids ran around and checked out bikes and brochures, danced to the music and had some juice. It was great for them to have fun whilst they stole the hearts of every female at the show. Once the show started they were in the front row to watch the intro of the new bikes for 2007 and Opera by Disguise. The almost surreal performance grew to a musical climax as the singers got the crowd clapping and cheering. Then…

The curtain in the corner drops after the opera singers finish a huge finale. The Ducati 1098 screams with unrestricted Termignoni pipes on the dyno as smoke machine and laser add even more dramatic effect. The crowd is whipped in to a frenzy as they shout ‘encore’!

The rider brings the beautiful machine to red line two more times as that familiar rev-limiter shudders the bike and it finally winds the huge Pirelli rear wheel down to a fanfare of applause. This bike has presence and power – and in that Italian tradition – its not afraid to tell the world about it…

Hey there Sabrina!

30 01 2007

Well hey there and welcome to this crazy world Sabrina! My little darling chose to join us at about 11pm on Saturday January 27. After much concern over her rather overestimated size thanks to a 20% error from my friends at GE, she ended up weighing in at a reasonable 4.1Kg.

Anyways… I am now officially the father of four beautiful little people who really make my life complete.

Thought for the Day…

Its hard to truely appreciate the volume of excrement which a pelican is capable of making until you collide with it at 50 miles per hour.

El Reg Winner!

5 01 2007

Well, I’ll be! It seems I won the ‘Dear Santa’ compo run by the lovely lads at El Reg! Much to my amazement, they like my UMPC/Phone hybrid design. I think I should approach some product design labs with my concept sheets as apparently, there is demand for my lunacy!

A big thankyou to the lads at The Register for selecting my entry.

General Stuff…

6 09 2006

Everything is moving along at the usual breakneck pace… I’m not sure if I have written anything about this previously, but we have been building our new house/the new Pixolut premesis over the last few months and its really starting to take shape. We are up to formworking the upstairs concrete slab and stairs.

Of course this has also consumed a heck of a lot of time in working with all the guys on the job getting things right in that translation from plan to reality. We essentially have spent about 5 years revising plans and now its all happening -0 very exciting.

At Pixolut we have updated BizBlox a lot with new tutorials, API documentation and knowledge base articles. We are in the process of arranging distribution with Component Source – so you should see your favourite ORM in a store near you soon. (Eh!?!)

Been doing a little skateboard homework too. These are great resources…

My Limbs Hate Me

30 08 2006

Well, it started back in 2002 when Sebastian was born – my right knee gave me grief all the time and I finally got an arthroscopy done to fix it. But the left one kept giving me trouble. I don’t know why but it has always been bad when I spend a lot of time on my feet.

Anyways, back to 2006 and I crash my motorbike. I hut my ankle but didn’t think it was too bad – after having much more trouble from my left knee and going to see a specialist he tells me that I actually broke my ankle and we decide to try and fix the left knee finally.

Well, 2 weeks after surgery I decided to get back to my level of fittness which is basically kick boxing and skateboarding. There is a great skate park just around the corner from where I am living at the moment. Just since I work so many hours and have the kids to take care of I usually end up going for a skate st night. All is fine but my ankle and knee get very tired sometimes. So I went for a skate last night at 10:30pm after finishing work and I was trying to do a pop-shove-it, managed to flip the board but it landed on my toe breaking it.

I must be getting old. Anyways, here is my inspiration: Rodney Mullen. I will be back at it in no time.
